Jarin's very short guide to Ragnarok Online version: 1.2 =============== version history =============== 1.1 - updated some links 1.2 - added some useful links ================= Table of contents ================= 1. Downloading and installing - it's this easy 2. Creating a character - how about thinking of the future? 3. Leveling and equipment - the real stuff 4. Things you might want to know - this is useful o_O ========================== Downloading and installing ========================== If you are planning to play on an official server, just follow the instructions on the website and it will get you there. Don't read any further. If you are planning to play on a pirate / private (thus illegal) server, get yourself a new Sakray client. A lot of information on RO clients can be found here: http://ratemyserver.net/index.php?page=download_kROLinks *Torrents tend to be more reliable than most uploads* What you need to play on a private server: 1. A Ragnarok client (RAG_SETUP) OR the runtime and dll files replacing that one 2. A sakray client (SAK_SETUP), to be more specific, a patched sakray client so be sure to let it complete the patch process after your installation 3. The data package provided by your server (some servers provide their own clients as a whole) How to install: 1. Create a nice folder somewhere on your system, like C:\Program Files\Ragnarok Online 2. Install the Ragnarok client there (or the runtime files) 3. Install the Sakray client in that same directory 4. Install / unpack the data package from your server in that same directory unless told otherwise Account creation: 1. Visit the server's website and access the control panel / registration form OR 1.1. Start the game with the .exe file that came with the server package 1.2. You will see the login screen. Here, enter your password and your user name, and add _m (male) or _f (female) behind your user name. This should be done once in order to register your account with the server. The next time you log on, just use the user name without _m / _f ==================== Creating a character ==================== When you logged in successfully, you will be dumped into a screen with 3 squares and some buttons. Hit 'make' or 'create', depending on your translation package, to create your first character. In the next window, you'll be confronted with a few hard choices, like the character's name, his or her hairstyle, and a mysterious looking hexagonal with scary words at the sharp ends. This is your first time seeing the attributes, the so called Status Points, of RO, also called stat points, or stats for short. Below, I'll give a short overview of RO's primary classes and stats. ---Jobs--- Swordsman: physical defense, physical offense, tank Magician: magical offense, magical defense, nuke Acolyte: magical defense, heal, buff Thief: physical offense, evasion Merchant: item carrier, brings in more money Archer: strong ranged physical offense ---Stats--- Str: strength - improves physical attack and weight limit. -jobs: Swordsman, Thief, Merchant Agi: agility - improves dodge rate and attack speed. -jobs: Thief, Archer, (Swordsman, Merchant) Vit: vitality - improves maximum hp, hp regeneration and physical defense. -jobs: Swordsman, Merchant, Acolyte, (Thief) Int: intelligence - improves magic attack, magic defense, maximum sp, sp regeneration. -jobs: Magician, Acolyte, (others) Dex: dexterity - improves missile attack (bows, guns), hit rate, attack speed, cast speed, tightens gap between minimum and maximum physical attack. -jobs: Archer, Mage, (others) Luk: luck - improves critical rate, lucky dodge, attack rate (barely noticeable). -jobs: Depending on future career Note that the jobs between () mean that they will have about 30+ in the end. Jobs listed first will end up with 70+. Off course, everything will depend on your choice for your 2ed job, for more info on that visit sites like www.gamefaqs.com and search for Ragnarok Online, or ask a seasoned player, most of them are likely to be willing to help you out. ====================== Leveling and equipment ====================== Now that you have created a character, it's time to go out and explore the wonderful world. Advice number 1: ALWAYS DO THE TRAINING COURSE - 350 novice red potions - 5150 zeny funding - novice equipment - some other useful stuff If you are going for archer, smash down as many of the walking threes (Willows) you can see, you will need the trunks they drop later. Wannabe mages should at least kill a few fabres and porings. After you bashed your way up to joblvl 10, you are ready to leave the training grounds and talk with the examiner. Fill in the personality test and he will tell you what job suits you. Then he will offer you the choice of following your 'destiny' or your own path, pick whichever you want. For help on job changes, ask someone in game or find a recent guide on the internet, that's too much text to put here. And it's more exciting to find out yourself as well. Once you changed jobs, try exploring the world, you will automatically encounter monsters that will gradually become stronger when you get away from the cities. Ow, and equipment can be purchased from weapon and armor dealers in every town, be sure to check their stats and if you can use them before your purchase! (right click them) Advice number 2: ALWAYS LOOT EVERYTHING A MONSTER DROPS AFTER KILLING IT - it makes you money (no really) - if a monster drops a piece of equipment, be sure to appraise it. It is possible that it contains a socket, or slot, recognizable by the bar with squares underneath the description. Slotted accessories and armor pieces are usually sought after by players so be sure not to sell them mindless to an NPC, a player will most likely pay you a tenfold of that price, if not a lot more. - if a monster drops a card, don't sell it to an NPC. Cards can be compounded to slotted gear to increase the wearer's stats. My personal favorite: Bastard Sword + Lunatic Card = Lucky Bastard Sword. ============================= Things you might want to know ============================= Guilds 1. Creation To found a guild you need an item called Emperium, them make the guild by typing /guild "" replace with the guild name you would like to use 2. Guild Emblems A little tricky. But... how do I chat then? Hit enter to use it as your chatbar 5. Useful? Imagine being a priest with over 9 skills you want to use. Definitely useful for seasoned players. Macros 1. Keep in mind that changing your primary job at joblvl 40 will give you 39 skill points and not 49! http://ro.doddlercon.com/calc/calcx.html Stat calculator - for new players, you can play around with the statpoints a little here to see how they are distributed.
